You can wear comfortable, loose clothing such as a vest, shorts or tracksuit bottoms, but it may be necessary to remove some clothing from around a symptomatic area to ensure a proper examination and treatment.
In accordance with current GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations) any information you provide is treated confidentially and stored securely. You will be asked to sign a GDPR form prior to treatment.
Your practitioner will ask you about your problem and how it started. A full medical history will be taken including information about any past operations, illnesses and medications that you may be taking. Details about your lifestyle, hobbies and general health will be required. Examination procedures and any tests that may be relevant such as reflexes and joint assessments will be explained to you as will any proposed treatment. Your osteopath will tailor treatments according to your presentation and symptoms. At any stage, you can tell your osteopath if you do not wish to have a particular technique performed, such as manipulation of a joint.
If a patient’s medical history and presentation gives cause for concern, your osteopath may decide that treatment is ill-advised and suggest referral directly to your doctor or A & E.
Any patients under the age of 16 will require parental consent and a chaperone.
It is not uncommon for patients to experience some residual soreness and stiffness after treatment, but this usually resolves within a couple of days - this is considered a normal reaction to treatment as the body needs time to heal and adjust. Some patients feel immediate relief from their pain and discomfort, but responses to treatment vary for each individual.
There are many factors involved, but a course of approximately 4 - 6 sessions is considered about average.
Patients who respond quickly to treatment often only need a couple of treatments while those with more chronic problems like osteoarthritis for example, sometimes choose to come in on a monthly or quarterly basis for on-going ‘maintenance’ treatments. You will be advised as to the likely number of treatments that you may need, but our intention is to ease your pain and discomfort as soon as is possible.
We continually monitor and respond to any advice and guidance provided by PHE (Public Health England) our governing body, the GOC (General Osteopathic Council) and the iO (Institute of Osteopathy) so that we can do our best in providing a safe environment for patients, therapists and staff alike.
We do ask that should you exhibit any flu-like symptoms or symptoms of Covid-19 (these may include high temperature, fever or chills, a dry cough, loss of taste or smell) to refrain from coming into the clinic or to re-schedule your appointment if you have one, either until your symptoms have resolved or you have a negative Covid test result. If you would prefer to wear a mask during your treatment or would like your therapist to wear a mask then please let them know. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the clinic.
A sanitising hand gel is available for use on entering and exiting the clinic as well as in each of the treatment rooms.
Clinic and treatment rooms cleaned on a daily basis.
